In the late 90s I was in charge of the pain franchise for a major pharmaceutical company. The job was to market gabapentin / pregabalin / ketamine and assess other products for possible use as prescription medicines. This included cannabis which was not viable as a medicine for anything but the most serious conditions because of the side-effects.
As PCC - I have been very clear that we need Tough Enforcement / Effective Treatment / Impactful Prevention. The last area is crucial; to stop our young people getting into illegal gateway drugs such as cannabis in the first place.
I am grateful to Janie Hamilton for sharing her story and for the work she does particularly in schools to create awareness about what can happen. I salute her courage.
